FOUNDATION-STONE for the Kannur Airport will be laid at 11 am on December 17. Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, and other Union ministers from the state will be present at the function. The Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) has been assigned the task of preparing a master plan for the runway of the airport. About 1,270 acres of land has been acquired for the airport.   Another 783 acres of land will be acquired for the purpose. A meeting of officials and representatives of the people was held at the Collectorate here on Thursday. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishna was present at the meeting. District Collector V K Balakrishnan presided over the meeting. Renovation work of Kannur-Mattanur, Thalassery-Anjarakkandy and Thalassery-Mattanur roads also would be taken up as part of the airport project shortly. Airport committee meeting today

Following the successful replication of the Cochin International Airport Ltd’s (Cial) holding structure by other airports, Kerala’s fourth international airport at Kannur will also see the state government’s holding in it capped at 49% and the balance stake parcelled among financial institutions, entrepreneurs and other entities. Kerala government will form a consortium of public sector enterprises and other government-sponsored firms to pick stakes in the greenfield airport in north Kerala. The state government will likely hold 24% and the public sector and government-sponsored firms 25%. The balance stake will go to private companies, high networth individuals and individuals.

Sree Muthappan   is a Hindu deity commonly worshiped in North Malabar region of Kerala State, South India . Parassinikkadavu is noted for the famous Muthappan temple where people go for worshipping Sree Muthappan . This is the only Hindu Temple in Kerala where a Theyyam performance is a daily ritual offering. Tradition has it that for the Annual Festival, Ulsavam, of the Muthappan Temple at Parassinikkadavu to start, a procession led by a female member of the "Thayyil" clan of Thayyil , Kannur begins from the family home and terminates at the main altar of the temple with a 'pooja' (prayer) to the Gods. There is an interesting legend associated with the origin of the temple. It is believed that the idol of Lord Vishnu consecrated here is the very idol worshiped by Sathyabhama, the consort of Lord Krishna at Dwaraka in the Mahabharata Era more than 5,000 years ago. One day it so happened that she failed to notice her husband standing nearby as she was immersed in performing Pooja to the idol. The Lord, furious, kicked the idol off the pedestal. It flew into the nearby sea, when its right hand was broken. Time and tide took the idol to the Kannur sea belt off Dwarka. A fisherman happened to net it. Fort St. Angelos Fort St. Angelos is in the west of Kannur town. It was built in 1505 by the first Portuguese Viceroy, Don Francisco De Almeida, with the permission of the Kolathiris, on a promontory jutting into the Lakshadweep sea. The Dutch captured the fort in 1663 and sold it to the Ali Raja of Kannur in 1772 and in 1790 it came into the possession of the British. The British rebuilt it and made it their most important station in Malabar . This fort is in a fairly good state of preservation, though parts of it have collapsed. A few obsolete guns areseeh at the place. The fort is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.

KANNUR: The stone for the Kannur airport  will be laid in the first week of December. A meeting of people's representatives and officials held at the Collectorate Conference Hall here on Thursday formed an organising committee for holding the function related to the works inauguration of the airport in December. District Collector V.K. Balakrishnan would be the convener of the committee. The meeting was chaired by Devaswom Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally. K. Sudhakaran, MP, MLAs K.K. Sailaja and A.P. Abdullakutty were among those who were present at the meeting. The meeting also decided to hold another meeting at Mattannur on November 20 to form a reception committee for the function.
