Fort St. Angelos
Fort St. Angelos is in the west of Kannur town. It was built in 1505 by the first Portuguese Viceroy, Don Francisco De Almeida, with the permission of the Kolathiris, on a promontory jutting into the Lakshadweep sea. The Dutch captured the fort in 1663 and sold it to the Ali Raja of Kannur in 1772 and in 1790 it came into the possession of the British. The British rebuilt it and made it their most important station in Malabar . This fort is in a fairly good state of preservation, though parts of it have collapsed. A few obsolete guns areseeh at the place. The fort is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.

Finally, the Kannur International Airport is on track. The photographs, news and every bit of information regarding this airport take me down the lane. Over 26 years ago, the hums and roars of aeroplane was a most exciting sound for a six year old girl. Every time an aeroplane passed in the sky over our small village I would jump out of the house to get a glimpse of the aeroplane. My eyes would follow the white dot in the sky until it vanished completely from the sight. Some days the naughty clouds used to steal my happiness. I still remember my first visit to Moorkhan paramba. I was accompanying my elder brothers to pluck ‘Kattu chethi’, a kind of herb, for preparing medicines. It was my first trekking experience too as a seven year old. The sloppy terrain filled with dried leaves and mysterious plants are no more there. Kannur Central Prison

A regional training centre for the employees of the Department of Prisons was set up by the State Institute of Correctional Administration at Kannur Central . Inaugurating the Centre Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the government had decided to establish a welfare fund  for prisoners, their families and the jail employees.  The Centre had sanctioned Rs154 crore for jail reform measures, he said.
