Kannur Airport: Foundation stone to be laid on Dec 17

FOUNDATION-STONE for the Kannur Airport will be laid at 11 am on December 17.
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, and other Union ministers from the state will be present at the function.
The Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) has been assigned the task of preparing a master plan for the runway of the airport. About 1,270 acres of land has been acquired for the airport.  Another 783 acres of land will be acquired for the purpose.
A meeting of officials and representatives of the people was held at the Collectorate here on Thursday. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishna was present at the meeting. District Collector V K Balakrishnan presided over the meeting.
Renovation work of Kannur-Mattanur, Thalassery-Anjarakkandy and Thalassery-Mattanur roads also would be taken up as part of the airport project shortly.
K K Sailaja MLA, Seena Ismail, chairperson of  Mattanur municipality, representatives of Kinfra and other officials participated in the meting.

Finally, the Kannur International Airport is on track. The photographs, news and every bit of information regarding this airport take me down the lane. Over 26 years ago, the hums and roars of aeroplane was a most exciting sound for a six year old girl. Every time an aeroplane passed in the sky over our small village I would jump out of the house to get a glimpse of the aeroplane. My eyes would follow the white dot in the sky until it vanished completely from the sight. Some days the naughty clouds used to steal my happiness. I still remember my first visit to Moorkhan paramba. I was accompanying my elder brothers to pluck ‘Kattu chethi’, a kind of herb, for preparing medicines. It was my first trekking experience too as a seven year old. The sloppy terrain filled with dried leaves and mysterious plants are no more there. Kannur Central Prison

A regional training centre for the employees of the Department of Prisons was set up by the State Institute of Correctional Administration at Kannur Central . Inaugurating the Centre Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the government had decided to establish a welfare fund  for prisoners, their families and the jail employees.  The Centre had sanctioned Rs154 crore for jail reform measures, he said.
