Kannur Airport: construction inauguration in December first week

KANNUR: The stone for the Kannur airport  will be laid in the first week of December.
A meeting of people's representatives and officials held at the Collectorate Conference Hall here on Thursday formed an organising committee for holding the function related to the works inauguration of the airport in December.
District Collector V.K. Balakrishnan would be the convener of the committee.
The meeting was chaired by Devaswom Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally. K. Sudhakaran, MP, MLAs K.K. Sailaja and A.P. Abdullakutty were among those who were present at the meeting.
The meeting also decided to hold another meeting at Mattannur on November 20 to form a reception committee for the function.
Land acquisition
Land acquisition for the airport had almost been completed and construction of 131 houses to accommodate the families evicted from the acquired land was in progress, the meeting was told.
It is learnt that the proposed airport, envisaged as a private-public partnership project, will be developed by the Kannur International Airport Limited. An extent of 370 hectares of land had already been acquired so far for the airport project.
The value of the land acquired by the government will be the government's share in the project according to officials.
